State of the scientific search for an extraterrestrial life
Groups of search and congress future

The scientific community shows some new interests as proved by the creation of several multi-fields research groups following some colloquiums on exobiology. These groups are constituted of scientists specialists of their domain and are due to university politics. In France, the observatory of Bordeaux shelters a group of research "Exobiologie" (45). The CNES has a planetology program (36) and the CNRS animates an interdisciplinary program with the group "Exobio" (44). At international level, great groupings of researchers are found also in exobiology ; the international astronomical union and its committee 51 (46), program NSCORT (48), the institute of astrobiology of NASA (47) in partnership with the future centre of astrobiology of Madrid (49).

This increase of the number of scientists involved in the search for an extraterrestrial life comes along obviously with an increase of communications, congress and other demonstrations of assembling. It is so not less than 27 symposia, colloquiums or conferences that are announced for 1999 (50, 51, 52).
